I've gotten to see STGM 5 or 6 times, it's always a good show, but it usually sounds about the same as it did before....is that so bad? depends, I guess on whether you got something better to do that night, so I've skipped em a few times, too. I understand that they are disbanded now, so doubt that I'll get another chance to see them, this is regretful at least since I do like looking at Carla K.....she's done more than a few other things, too, so MAYBE she can drop by in a new band? I certainly hope so.....maybe with Fred?

Yob returned home with a vengeance, playing the closing set at the Oak Street with a great mix of old and new songs. As usual, they were totally on, and happy to play before a packed home town crowd. Some of the nicest guys in the business, and incredibly talented. I've seen them about a dozen times, and they just keep getting better. Sound at the OSS was best I've heard, major kudos to the soundman and the owner.

Well, I don’t see what the big stir on these girls is. I guess that they’re not totally talentless (like the Viv Girls) and that they are not bad to look at, but frankly, I’d sure like to see Katherine Hanna or Erase Errata. On the plus side, their pants were super fucking tight, so it wasn’t a completely wasted night. Openers were the Family Band, which was thankfully much briefer and PVT (aka Pivot) which was the best band of the evening.

This group blew thru on a rainy October from SF. Set to do a Spring tour on the East Coast and then Midwest. Their self titled CD on Profound Lore didn’t leave my cd player for a couple weeks, Nice atmospheric vocals, good musicianship, great looking girls in this band. Hope they come through again soon.

I miss the Samurai Duck which closed about a year and a half ago, I got to see Thrones, Khanate, a lot of Yob and HC Minds shows and a bunch of local metal. The bartenders there were mostly musicians themselves and I got a lot of free drinks there. Had a really great mens room, too, completely thrashed. Sound system was fairly fucked, and the engineer was always struggling with some wiring in the back, so some of my recs there came out so/so. Not so (so) for Kayo Dot who showed up here late ‘o6. A pretty decent set, and some pretty interesting space. A lot of stage banter by the leader, what’s his name, Cory Whatthefuck? I cut the majority of that out, so you don’t have to hear it.
